Inflorescences

corymbose panicles;

rachises glabrous or puberulent with straight or curved cylindrical trichomes, fruiting pedicels ascending to horizontal; terete; straight, 5–10(15) mm, glabrous or sparsely puberulent adaxially.

Flowers

sepals caducous, 1.5–2.5 mm;

petals obovate; (2.5)3–4(4.5) × (1)1.3–2(2.2) mm, white;

stamens 6;

styles (0.6)1–1.8(2) mm.

Fruits

indehiscent, flattened, cordate to subreniform; (2)2.5–3.7(4.3) × (3.2)3.7–5(5.6) mm;

tips obtuse to subacute; apical notch absent;

valves smooth, glabrous, reticulate-veined; wingless.

Disturbed areas, fields, riverbanks. Flowering Apr–Aug. 0–1700 m. BR, BW, Col, ECas, Owy, Sisk, WV. CA, ID, NV, WA; throughout North America except northern Canada and southeast US; nearly worldwide. Exotic.
