erect, twigs of current season green to greenish brown, glabrous to slightly pubescent; older twigs brown to copper with exfoliating bark.

Leaves

alternate or seemingly whorled, elliptic-oblanceolate to oblanceolate, 15–52 × 5–15 mm, light green abaxially, green adaxially;

margins entire;

tips mucronate, rarely rounded;

surfaces glaucous;

petioles 1–3 mm.

Inflorescences

terminal; solitary flowers, sometimes 2–3-flowered cymes;

bracts leaf-like, lanceolate, 8–15 mm;

margins entire.

Pedicels

4–15 mm.

Flowers

perfect, radially symmetric;

sepals 5, connate at base, lanceolate, 5–10 mm, often unequal;

tips acute;

corollas deciduous;

petals 5; distinct, oblong-elliptic, 10–15 mm; salmon to coppery-pink;

stamens 8–10;

filaments glabrous; < petals;

anthers 1–2 mm;

ovaries superior;

Discussion

Montane coniferous forests. Flowering Jun–Jul. 500–1100 m. CR. WA; north to AK. Native.

Cladothamnus pyroliflorus is relatively rare in Oregon, which represents the southernmost extent of its range.
