Howell's tauschia, Howell's umbrellawort

Habit Herbs short-caulescent, green, 5–8 cm, glabrous.
Leaves

1-pinnate or 1-ternate;

petiole 2–3 cm;

blade oblong to ovate, 1.5–3 × 1.5–3 cm;

leaflets (usually penultimate segments) oblong to ovate, 5–18 × 5–15 mm, lobed, margins irregularly mucronate-dentate.

Peduncles

1–3 cm, usually shorter than leaves.

Umbels

rays (0–)3–5, (0–)8–16 mm, unequal, spreading-ascending;

involucel bractlets leaflike, ascending, oblong to ovate, 10–20 mm, much exceeding flowers and fruits, pinnately lobed, margins irregularly mucronate-serrate.

Pedicels

to 5 mm.

Flowers

petals yellow.

Schizocarps

oblong, ellipsoid, or globose;

mericarps 2–4 × 1–2 mm;

ribs filiform;

oil ducts several in intervals, several on commissure.

Discussion

Tauschia howellii has umbels sessile or nearly so in the axils of leaves. Bractlets are similar to the foliage leaves in size and shape. It is known only from the Salmon Mountains in the Klamath Ranges of Siskiyou County, California, and Jackson County, Oregon.
