blades white to silvery, linear to triangular, mostly unlobed, proximalmost blades 3-parted, rarely with nonfiliform lobes, 1–3.5 cm, not rugose, base truncate to cuneate, margins entire, surfaces silvery stellate-lepidote.

blades green to gray-green, linear to linear-lanceolate or lanceolate to broadly trullate, unlobed to hastately lobed to angulate, if lobed, center lobe elongate, not deeply dissected, (1.5–)3.5–10(–15) cm, not rugose, base cuneate, margins finely dentate to crenate, surfaces stellate-pubescent.

Inflorescences

racemose, lax, open, 3–12-flowered, tip not leafy;

involucellar bractlets silvery-lepidote.

paniculate, crowded, flowers clustered, tip usually leafy with distinct mature subtending leaves throughout;

involucellar bractlets green to tan.

Flowers

sepals 4.5–5.5(–7) mm;

petals red-orange, 8–15 mm;

anthers yellow.

mericarps 7–9, 2.5–3.5 × 2–3 mm, thick-coriaceous, nonreticulate dehiscent part 20–40% of height, tip muticous-mucronulate, indehiscent part usually wider than dehiscent part, sides coarsely reticulate.

ovoid or truncate-conic;

mericarps 9–15, 3.5–7 × 1.5–2 mm, chartaceous, nonreticulate dehiscent part 65–85% of height, muticous to cuspidate, indehiscent part not wider than dehiscent part.
