Habit Subshrubs, 15–30 cm (in rock crevices, stems relatively many, erect to pendulous); sparsely to densely short-hairy, glandular. Annuals, perennials, subshrubs, or shrubs, 2–45(–75) cm (glabrous or hairy, often gland-dotted).

petioles 2–15 mm;

blades deltate-ovate to ovate-rhombic, 6–23 × 5–24 mm, margins usually entire or serrate to serrate-crenate, sometimes shallow-lobed.

mostly cauline; often proximally opposite, distally alternate; petiolate or sessile;

blades usually 3-lobed, ultimate margins entire, toothed, or lobed.

Peduncles

5–25 mm.

Discussion

Perityle ciliata is found only in the mountains of central Arizona in Apache, Coconino, Gila, Mohave, and Yavapai counties. It appears to be most closely related to P. coronopifolia.

Most species of Perityle are rock-dwelling subshrubs exhibiting geographic speciation; most are found in the eroded mountain and basin region of the southwestern United States.
