Discussion

Variety nootkatensis is common along the coast from southern Alaska, including the Aleutian Islands, southward to Vancouver Island, and is frequent in the coastal mountains. It is found occasionally inland to the Rocky Mountains, northward to Alaska and Yukon, but is rare in interior southern British Columbia. Variety nootkatensis is introduced in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia for restoration and is a garden escape in Greenland.
