Habit Herbs or subshrubs with caudex usually below ground, forming a mat. Herbs or subshrubs, perennial, to 2 dm, matted or tufted, silvery-silky.

Discussion

Variety breweri is known from Mount Pinos through the Sierra Nevada and Siskiyou Mountains in California, to southern Oregon (Mt. Ashland, Jackson County), and western Nevada in Washoe County.
