Discussion | Variety fulvomaculatus is known from the Abajo and La Sal mountains in southeastern Utah, mountainous Colorado, in the Santa Fe National Forest and vicinity in New Mexico, and in northeastern Apache County, Arizona, where it is rare. Variety argophyllus is known from the foothills of the Rocky Mountains from Montana and South Dakota southward to northern Arizona, New Mexico, and the San Juan Basin in southwestern Colorado, and eastward into Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, and Wyoming. Variety argophyllus can be separated by the spurred calyx, flowers in profile appearing closed or shallowly gaping, and petioles of the lowest or largest cauline leaves 1.5–3 cm.
