Varieties 3 (3 in the flora). Eriogonum jamesii is a nectar source for the rare Spalding dotted-blue butterfly (Euphilotes spaldingi). Of conservation concern. Eriogonum lancifolium is known only from Mancos Shale hills and flats east and south of Wellington, in Carbon and Emery counties. The largest population is found on the flats south of Mounds Reef. S. L. Welsh et al. (2003) reduced this species to synonymy under E. corymbosum var. corymbosum.
