Eriogonum incanum is common throughout the central and southern Sierra Nevada of California (Alpine, El Dorado, Fresno, Inyo, Madera, Mariposa, Nevada, Tulare, and Tuolumne counties) and extreme west-central Nevada (Carson City, Douglas, and Washoe counties). It is a food plant for the green hairstreak butterfly (Callophrys lemberti), the Pacific dotted-blue (Euphilotes enoptes), and the gorgon copper (Gaeides gorgon). Eriogonum latens is locally uncommon to rare in the White Mountains of western Nevada (Esmeralda County) and along the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada in California (Inyo and Mono counties). An isolated population occurs on Waucoba Mountain in the Inyo Mountains. A collection supposedly from Long Valley in Mono County (Noldeke s.n., Jul 1938, CAS) remains to be confirmed as to location.
