Eriogonum incanum is common throughout the central and southern Sierra Nevada of California (Alpine, El Dorado, Fresno, Inyo, Madera, Mariposa, Nevada, Tulare, and Tuolumne counties) and extreme west-central Nevada (Carson City, Douglas, and Washoe counties). It is a food plant for the green hairstreak butterfly (Callophrys lemberti), the Pacific dotted-blue (Euphilotes enoptes), and the gorgon copper (Gaeides gorgon). Eriogonum dasyanthemum is common to locally abundant in the North Coast Ranges (Colusa, Glenn, Lake, Mendocino, Napa, Shasta, Solano, Tehama, Trinity, and Yolo counties). A single collection apparently made at Mendocino along the Pacific Ocean in Mendocino County (Brown 942, Aug 1898, B, BKL, F, GH, IND, MO, RM) requires modern confirmation. Jepson 8962 (JEPS, UTC) supposedly was gathered “above Venado” in Colusa County, but Venado is a small town in Sonoma County. The densely pubescent flowers easily distinguish this species.
