Habit Shrubs or subshrubs, relatively erect, sparsely pilosulous or glabrous proximal to inflorescences.
Stems

spikes, relatively densely flowered, not involucrate, 11–15 mm diam.;

wings 4.9–5.8 × 2.2–3 mm;

keel connate valvately, blades 5–6.2 × 3.2–4.4 mm.

not conventionally papilionaceous;

banner 4.3–4.6 mm, blade ovate to elliptic, 2.1–2.3 × 1.8–2 mm; epistemonous petals attached at separation of filaments, blades 2.6–3 × 1.1–1.3 mm.

Calyces

asymmetric, recessed opposite banner, 5.2–7.8 mm, sparsely pilosulous;

tube 2.5–3.1 mm, with 0–2 glands between ribs, lobes lanceolate-acuminate, each with several elongated, pricklelike glands (gland spurs).

subsymmetric, 4.2–4.6 mm, silky-pilosulous to -tomentulose, hairs subappressed;

tube 1.9–2.1 mm, with ribs leading to sinuses stronger than those leading to lobes, tube appearing bluntly 5-angled, with 0 glands between ribs, lobes lanceolate-acuminate or adaxial pair triangular-acuminate.

Legumes

3 mm, pilosulous distally, eglandular.

3.1–3.5 mm, pilosulous and gland-dotted distally.

Seeds

1.5 mm.

1.3 mm.

Dalea tentaculoides occurs in Santa Cruz and Pima counties. It is in the Center for Plant Conservation’s National Collection of Endangered Plants.
