Discussion

Variety lanata is found mostly from 1200–1300 m and is disjunct on the Texas coastal plain from 0–300 m.

It has been argued that the southeast Texas populations of Dalea lanata should be recognized as a distinct species, D. austrotexana, due to genetic isolation from the remainder of D. lanata and a difference in leaflet length (B. L. Turner 2006b).
