Discussion | Varieties 4 (4 in the flora). (Discussion copyrighted by Flora of North America; reprinted with permission.) |
Variety davidsonii is known from drier regions east of the South Coast and Transverse ranges. Some collections suggest a relationship between precipitation and corolla size; others are of intermediate size and difficult to separate from var. bartsiifolia. The two varieties, in general, are not sympatric. Some populations of var. davidsonii near New Idria and San Benito Mountain in San Benito County occur on serpentine soil. In those populations, banners are slightly reduced relative to those of plants in nearby populations found in sandy habitats.
