Discussion

Subspecies speciosa is known from the South Coast Ranges in Monterey, San Benito, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and scarcely to Ventura counties, and very sporadically in the Tehachapi and southern Sierra Nevada Mountains in Kern and Tulare counties.

(Discussion copyrighted by Flora of North America; reprinted with permission.)

Subspecies polyantha is relatively common in Fresno, Kern, Madera, and Tulare counties in the foothills of the southern Sierra Nevada, and is uncommon in the Tehachapi Mountains in Kern and Los Angeles counties. A report from Riverside County (cited in Calflora) is erroneous.
