Discussion

Subspecies plummerae occurs in the Santa Monica Mountains in Los Angeles County, Matilija Canyon in Ventura County, the western slopes of the Santa Ynez Mountains and Santa Cruz Island in Ventura County (R. M. Beauchamp and J. Henrickson 1996).

Of conservation concern.

Known only from coastal scrub in the Santa Lucia Range, northwestern San Luis Obispo County, subsp. glabrata is generally reduced in most characters than subsp. plummerae, with smaller heads and fewer florets (R. M. Beauchamp and J. Henrickson 1995).
