calyx often purplish, campanulate, glabrous, tube (4.6–)5–6.5 × 3.4–4.5 mm, lobes 2–4.2 mm;

corolla usually pink-purple and wing tips white (bicolored), less often concolorous.

Legumes

subsymmetric, ellipsoid, (25–)35–55(–63) mm, sutures convexly arched, sometimes less strongly so ventrally;

gynophore 3.5–8(–10) mm.

Habitat Open hillsides, gullied banks, on dry, gravelly or sandy soils derived from various sedimentary and eruptive rocks, pinyon pine and sage­brush communities.

Discussion

Variety oophorus ranges from the Panamint Mountains and upper Owens Valley of southeastern California to west-central and central Nevada.
