Pauper milkvetch

Habit Plants 2.5–15 cm. Plants 10–25 cm.
Leaves

2.5–7 cm;

leaflets relatively distant and scattered, (7–)11 or 13, blade surfaces strigulose adaxially.

2.5–6.5 cm;

leaflets comparatively crowded, (9–)13–21, blade surfaces glabrous or glabrate adaxially.

Habitat Mostly ridges and upper slopes, sometimes middle and lower slopes, sagebrush scablands. Stony pastures, gravelly clay banks, on basaltic bedrock.

Discussion

Long known from only one or two collections, var. pauper occurs primarily along the western margin of the Columbia Basin province from Douglas to Klickitat counties.

Variety misellus is restricted to the upper forks of the Deschutes and John Day rivers in central Oregon.
