Stems

(1–3 together) usually simple, rarely branched (moderately to densely hairy, hairs translucent with purple septa).

Leaves

3–8 pairs, mostly crowded toward bases; petiolate (at least proximal);

blades elliptic to oblanceolate or obovate, 5–10 × 0.5–3.5 cm, margins entire, apices acute, faces densely hairy (hairs relatively short, curly) and sessile-glandular (distal leaves sessile, much reduced).

(2–)3–5(–6) pairs, usually crowded toward stem bases; petiolate or sessile (petioles short-winged);

blades elliptic, lanceolate, or broadly oblanceolate, 3–10 × 1–2.5 cm, margins usually entire proximal to mid blade, subentire to denticulate distally, apices acute to obtuse, faces: abaxial paler and often glabrous, adaxial slightly hairy.

Involucres

campanulate to hemispheric.

turbinate-campanulate (bases moderately villous, hairs brownish).

Ray florets

5–12;

corollas yellow.

Discussion

Although Arnica dealbata lacks pappi, morphologic, cytologic, and molecular data (B. G. Baldwin and B. L. Wessa 2000; Baldwin et al. 2002) clearly support its inclusion in Arnica.
