alpine hawkweed, slender hawkweed

Habit Slender perennials 3-35 cm. tall, the stem leafless and covered with fine, stellate hairs, and with milky juice.
Leaves

Leaves all basal, tufted, entire and glabrous, 1-10 cm. long and 3-15 mm. wide, with a short petiole.

Flowers

Heads solitary to several in an elongate inflorescence;

involucre 6-8 mm. high, this and the upper peduncle covered with grey, stellate hairs and usually with some long, blackish bristles as well.
