hairy goldaster

Habit Perennial from a taproot and somewhat woody base, with several stems 1-5 dm. tall, the herbage hairy or glandular or both.
Leaves

Lowermost leaves early-deciduous, the others numerous and evenly distributed along the stem, up to 5 cm. long and 1 cm. wide, oblong, alternate and entire.

Flowers

Heads several in a short, flat-topped inflorescence;

involucre 5-10 mm. high, the bracts imbricate, tapering to a point; disk and ray flowers yellow, the rays 10-25, 6-10 mm. long;

inner pappus of capillary bristles, outer pappus of evident scales.
