Habit Herbaceous perennial to 25 cm. high originating from below-ground corm.
Leaves

All basal, narrowly lanceoloate, withering before plants produce flowers.

Flowers

Flowers 2-5 cm. long;

tepal lobes 6, blue-purple to rose, recurved at the tips, fused below to form a tube;

fertile stamens 3, staminodia 3, both attached to tepals, anthers often white;

ovary superior.

Fruits

Capsules with black seeds.
