Habit Herbs perennial, glabrous or sparsely pubescent.

margins deeply pinnatisect;

lateral lobes 3–6 on each side of midvein, linear, lanceolate, oblong, or ovate, dentate or subentire, petiolate.

Cauline leaves

similar to basal, bases uppermost pinnatisect, with 1–3 lateral lobes, usually subsessile.

Inflorescences

fruiting pedicels divaricate; straight; (3)4–10(12) mm.

Flowers

sepals ascending or spreading, caducous, 1.8–3(3.5) mm;

petals spatulate or obovate; (2.5)3–5.5(6) × 1.5–2.5 mm;

ovules 24–80 per ovary;

septa complete;

styles 0.5–1(1.5) mm.

Fruits

siliques, linear, 10–20(25) × (0.7)1–1.3(1.6) mm, glabrous;

valves glabrous.

Seeds

rarely produced, uniseriate or subbiseriate; ovoid, 0.5–0.9 × 0.4–0.5 mm; reddish brown.

Washes, meadows, ditches, sandy beaches, shores of ponds and lakes, disturbed areas, fields. Flowering May–Aug. 50–900 m. BW, ECas, WV. CA, ID, WA; scattered throughout North America; Europe. Exotic.
