margins entire, dentate, sinuate, or lyrate-pinnatifid, petiolate or subsessile.

Inflorescences

fruiting pedicels divaricate or reflexed; straight or curved; (2.5)3–10(14) mm.

Flowers

sepals erect, caducous, 1.5–2.4(2.6) mm;

petals spatulate; (1.5)1.8–2.5(3) × 0.5–1.5 mm;

ovules 20–90 per ovary;

styles 0.2–1(1.2) mm.

Fruits

silicles or rarely siliques, oblong, ellipsoid, or ovoid; (3)4–10 × (1.5)1.7–3(3.5) mm, often slightly curved, glabrous;

valves glabrous;

septa complete.

Seeds

biseriate; ovoid or subglobose, 0.5–0.7(0.9) × 0.4–0.6(0.7) mm, brown to yellowish brown.

Discussion

2 subspecies.

Rorippa palustris is by far the most variable species in the genus. Stuckey (1972) divided the species into four subspecies and eleven varieties, but all except two were artificially delimited, and the characters used to separate them show tremendous overlap.
