Leaves

1.5–5 cm, broadly or narrowly linear to oblanceolate, bases clasping, not decurrent;

surfaces floccose-tomentose, not glandular.

basal and cauline, or mostly cauline, alternate, linear to linear-lanceolate, lanceolate, oblong, or oblanceolate, gradually reduced distally, bases decurrent or not, sometimes clasping;

margins entire, 1-veined;

tips acute or obtuse;

surfaces one or both tomentose, sometimes adaxially stalked-glandular, sessile.

Inflorescences

glomerules in corymb- or panicle-like arrays;

bracts present or not.

Discussion

Riverbanks, roadsides, disturbed areas. Flowering May–Aug. 0–300 m. CR, Est, Sisk, WV. CA, NV, WA; southeast to FL, south to Mexico; Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, Pacific Islands. Exotic.

Worldwide. ~100 species; 5 species treated in Flora.
