Leaves

cauline, 4–10, oblong to linear-lanceolate, 10–11 × 1–3 cm, green through anthesis;

apex obtuse; lower leaves clasping stem; upper leaves becoming bracts within the inflorescence.

Inflorescences

densely to loosely 20–40-flowered.

Flowers

more or less spreading, green;

dorsal sepal ovate, 3–5 × 3–4 mm;

lateral sepals lanceolate and oblique, 4–6 × 2–3 mm;

petals lanceolate, sickleshaped, 3–5 × 1–2.5 mm;

lip linear-elliptic to lanceolate, 4–8 × 1–2 mm, descending;

spur shorter than lip and distinctly pouchshaped.

Discussion

Wet meadows, roadside ditches, stream sides, fens, seeps, springs. Flowering Jun–Aug. 0–2300m. BW, Casc, CR, ECas, Est, Sisk. CA, ID, WA; north to AK, east to WY. Native.

Widespread, P. stricta is easily identified by its distinctive pouch-like spurs.
