Pacific states and northwestern Mexico. 3 varieties; 2 varieties treated in Flora.

Disturbed areas. Flowering May–Jun. 0–300 m. CR, Sisk, WV. CA, ID, WA; UT; Africa, Europe, Hawaii. Exotic.
