subglobose to obovoid; more or less obtuse; shorter or longer than the tepals, brown to dark brown, red-spotted or not, 3-chambered.

Discussion

Wet prairies, pastures, shores, ditches. 100–300m. Casc, WV. CA; scattered across North America; South America. Exotic.

Juncus marginatus is considered adventive in California as well as British Columbia and Oregon. The red-speckling on the tepals or capsules (when present) and knobby stem base are distinctive.
