Discussion

Pine woods, shrublands, riverbanks, lake shores, ponds, roadsides, disturbed areas. Flowering May–Sep. 0–1900 m. BR, BW, Casc, Col, ECas, Lava, Owy, WV. CA, ID, NV, WA; north to British Columbia, northeast to Manitoba, east to WI, southeast to TX. Native.

This species is wind-pollinated, a somewhat unusual characteristic within Asteraceae.
