Habit Plants 3–20 cm.
Leaves

oblanceolate to elliptic-oblong, 1–12 cm;

margins dentate or lobed;

teeth triangular;

lobes triangular or lanceolate;

tips obtuse or denticulate;

surfaces usually glandular-puberulent, sometimes also pilose to lightly or densely villous, sessile or petiolate.

Involucres

obconic, 7–13 × 8–12 mm.

Ray florets

12–30;

rays 7–14 mm.

Disc florets

50–100+;

corollas 9–12 mm.

Phyllaries

14–30; outer usually lanceolate, rarely linear; inner lanceolate;

tips acute to acuminate;

surfaces pilose to lightly or densely villous, usually glandular-puberulent.

Fruits

6–9 mm; black, pilose;

pappi 0.5–2 mm, white.
