Discussion

Fields, waste places, roadsides, disturbed areas, gravelly slopes, sandy plains, open rangelands. Flowering Mar–Sep. 0–1200 m. Sisk, WV. CA, NV, WA; scattered throughout North America; Africa, Asia, Europe. Exotic.

This taxon, which is widely cultivated as a salad plant and for its seeds as a source of industrial oils, is naturalized worldwide.
