Discussion | Dry areas in temperate regions. 1 genus. Rich in alkaloids, particularly ephedrines, many Ephedra species have been used medicinally as stimulants, anti-viral, antibacterial, and cough medicines. A tea made from the stems of American Ephedra species is a mild stimulant, hence the common name Mormon tea. |
