Habit Plants annual or short-lived perennial, glabrous; rhizomes cylindrical, slender, 0.5–1.5 mm in diameter. Plants annual, sparsely hirsute at least along petioles of basal leaves, often glabrous above.

Basal leaves

rosulate or not, 3–5-foliolate, 1–6 cm;

terminal leaflets obovate to orbicular or subcordate, 0.3–1.5(2) × 0.25–1.6(1.8) cm, bases obtuse or cordate;

margins entire, dentate, or sinuate;

lateral leaflets considerably smaller.

persistent at anthesis, rosulate; (5)8–15(22)-foliolate; (2)3.5–15(17) cm;

terminal leaflets reniform or orbicular, 0.4–2 × 0.6–3 cm; entire, dentate, or 3–5-lobed;

lateral leaflets smaller than terminal; entire to 3-lobed.

Discussion

Moist mossy cliffs, rocky slopes, banks. Flowering Apr–Jun. 200–1000 m. CR. Native. Endemic to Oregon.

The species is known only from a limited number of collections, all made in northwestern Oregon.

Disturbed sites, roadsides, clearings, mixed woods, meadows, fields, grassy areas. Flowering Mar–Jul. 0–1000 m. Casc, Col, CR, ECas, Est, Sisk, WV. CA, WA; scattered worldwide. Exotic.
