petals obovate; to 45 mm long, white to pink, usually rounded at apex, with a reddish to purple blotch above nectary;

nectary crested with long branching yellow hairs, transversely oval;

filaments to 10 mm long;

anthers to 8 mm long.

Fruits

erect; to 25 mm long, rounded at apex, with a short beak, winged.

Seeds

light yellow.

Grasslands, scablands, open coniferous forests. Flowering Jun–Aug. 200–2500m. BR, BW, Lava. NV, WA. Native.

A disjunct population of this species exists in the Humboldt Mountains of Nevada.
