Habit Shrubs deciduous, 5–20 dm.
Stems

puberulent, distally tomentulose, sometimes glandular-puberulent.

Leaves

blades triangular-ovate, 1.5–7 cm, bases truncate or attenuate;

margins denticulate or serrate-dentate;

tips acute or obtuse;

surfaces glabrous or puberulent, sometimes stipitate-glandular, minutely gland-dotted, usually short-petiolate.

Involucres

narrowly campanulate, 6–12 mm.

Disc florets

8–18;

corollas 5.5–8 mm, yellow-green.

Phyllaries

21–35 in 6–8 series; outer ovate to lanceolate;

tips erect, obtuse to acuminate; innermost linear;

tips obtuse to acuminate, glabrous or puberulent, not obviously glandular.

Fruits

2.5–3.5 mm, pale brown, scabrous;

pappus bristles 6–7 mm.

Heads

erect or spreading, bracteate.

Woodlands, hillsides, riverbanks. Flowering Jul–Sep. 0–1300 m. Owy, Sisk. CA, ID, NV; southeast to TX, south to Mexico. Native.
