Open woodlands shrublands, thickets, grasslands, river­banks, rocky slopes and cliffs, disturbed areas. Flowering Jul–Oct. 50–1600 m. BR, BW, Col, ECas, Lava, Owy. CA, ID, NV, WA; north to AK, northeast to Quebec, east to MA, southeast to TX. Native.
