Howell's pussytoes

Habit Herbs gynoecious, staminate plants uncommon; stolons 1–8(12) cm.
Stems

(6)8–35 cm, not glandular.

Basal leaves

usually forming rosettes, oblanceolate, cuneate-oblanceolate; ovate, or spatulate; (14)20–50(65) × 2.5–20 mm, 1–3-veined;

tips mucronate;

surfaces abaxially tomentose, adaxially glabrous to gray-pubescent.

Cauline leaves

linear, 8–40 mm;

tips acute to acuminate;

distal sometimes flagged.

Involucres

mostly glabrous to pubescent, staminate heads 6–6.5 mm, pistillate heads 6–11 mm.

Phyllaries

distally white to light brown;

tips acute to acuminate, rarely rounded.

Fruits

0.8–2 mm, sometimes papillate.

Heads

4–15 per stem; in corymb-like arrays.
